Bringing Rural Broadband To You

Bringing Broadband to You

Wharton County Electric Cooperative began offering Wirehand Wireless Internet service in 2006 to meet the need for broadband service in rural areas.

The Wirehand network currently serves over 500 users in coverage areas located within 5-10 miles of our network towers. A site inspection is required before new installation can take place.

WCEC also offers Exede Satellite Internet for those users who are outside the Wirehand coverage areas.

Wirehand Wireless

Wirehand Wireless Internet is a Fixed Wireless system that requires line of sight or near-line of sight to a WCEC Wirehand Wireless tower. TelRad LTE equipment is now installed on all Wirehand Wireless towers bringing faster speed and more reliability to our Internet users.

No phone line is required with this service. Plans start at just $39.95.

Exede Satellite

If you are unable to obtain line of sight for Wirehand Wireless, WCEC offers 2-way satellite broadband Internet provided by Exede. This service can be installed anywhere there is an open view to the south.

No phone line is required for this service.

Plans start at just $50.

This is a general representation of our current service area. It may not encompass WCEC's entire service area. Wirehand Wireless is available within the circled areas around each of our towers. Availability will also depend on a clear line of sight to the nearest tower as well as the current capacity of users on the tower. Please call our office at 979-543-6271 to schedule a site survey.
