WCEC Achieves 1 Million Safe Work Hours
Milestone emphasizes cooperative’s strong commitment to safety
Wharton County Electric Cooperative proudly announces a major safety milestone: surpassing 1 million work hours without a lost time incident. This accomplishment reflects the cooperative’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a culture of safety for all employees.
A “lost time incident” refers to a work-related injury or illness that results in an employee being unable to perform their job duties for at least one full day. That’s right—not one missed day of work due to an on-the-job injury. It’s a major milestone that shows how committed the co-op is to keeping everyone safe.
“Safety is not just a box we check—it’s a core value that guides everything we do,” said GM/CEO Gary Raybon. “Achieving 1 million safe hours is evidence of the dedication and teamwork of our entire staff. I’m incredibly proud of our employees for putting Safety First every single day.”
The milestone reflects years of consistent training, strong safety protocols, and a proactive approach to accident prevention. Employees regularly participate in safety meetings, drills, and continuing education to stay current with industry standards.
“Whether climbing a pole or answering the phone, our team is constantly evaluating their environment and making smart, safe decisions,” Raybon added. “This achievement is about people—our linemen, office staff, technicians, everyone—looking out for one another.”
WCEC plans to celebrate this accomplishment with its employees and will continue building on its safety success.
“This milestone is just the beginning,” Raybon said. “We are committed to continuous improvement, and we’ll keep pushing to ensure every employee goes home safely at the end of the day.”
