Scholarship Available In Lieu of Youth Tour

The cancellation of the 2021 Government-in-Action Youth Tour was a disappointment to all of us here at Wharton County Electric Cooperative. Youth Tour represents one of our most important investments in the future of the communities we serve.

In the spirit of serving our community and the youth of our membership, the WCEC Board of Directors has opted to award $2,500 scholarships to three graduating high school seniors this year.

“We realize that losing the opportunity to take this trip of a lifetime is discouraging. Especially for students graduating this year that will not have the chance to apply next year,” WCEC GM/CEO Gary Raybon says.

“Awarding scholarships in lieu of the trip is our way of softening the blow so to speak. We still want to invest in the future of our cooperative and our communities.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must be a graduating senior in 2021. The parent or legal guardian of the student must be an active residential member of Wharton County Electric Cooperative.

Applicants must submit a fully completed application as well as a 500-word essay or 5-7 minute video presentation covering the following topic: “Energy Conservation: What Can One Person Do?” The application and full details are available at the WCEC Office El Campo and online at MyWCEC.coop/YouthTour. The application can also be downloaded below.

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 9, 2021.
