Trip Of A Lifetime Returns in 2023

Two high school students from our service territory will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 11-19, 2023.

After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 precautions, WCEC will once again participate in the Government-in-Action Youth Tour in 2023.

Youth Tour is a youth leadership program sponsored by Wharton County Electric Cooperative and organized by Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Electric cooperatives across the state and nation join together to send young adults to the nation’s capital for an action-packed tour.

Highlights of the trip include meeting congressional leaders, visiting national monuments and historic sites, touring museums, and rallying with more than 1,700 fellow students for a day of inspirational leadership speakers.

To win what has been called the trip of a lifetime, apply now for the Wharton County EC contest. To apply, submit a completed application and an essay or video to be judged independently through Wharton County Electric Cooperative. This year’s contest topic is: If you had the opportunity to change one thing about your school or community, what would it be and why?

Eligible entrants must be between the ages of 15 and 19 and must have completed their sophomore year of high school. The applicant's parent or legal guardian must be an active residential member or employee of Wharton County Electric Cooperative.

Applications must arrive at Wharton County Electric Cooperative by  4:00 p.m. February 3, 2023. They can be submitted at the WCEC office or electronically to brodriguez@mywcec.coop. Mailed applications will not be accepted.
